Nagar Kirtan—neighbourhood hymn singing—is a religious procession and beloved custom in Sikh culture. Marked by singing hymns and spreading messages about peace and community service, this significant cultural event encourages unity and shares Sikh culture and heritage across Calgary. This event attracts over 100,000 attendees, so effective planning and compliance with local regulations are necessary. ​

As you prepare for Nagar Kirtan this year, Calgary Parking encourages you to be helpful to neighbours by prioritizing parking safety, following parking rules, respecting neighbours and maintaining community standards.

Parking restrictions

Temporary parking restrictions (bans) are often implemented along parade routes and surrounding areas to accommodate the large crowds and ensure safety during Nagar Kirtan. Parking bans will be enforced from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. along the parade route, with clear signage indicating no-parking zones.
