Parking Safety & Compliance | Calgary Parking

Parking safety & compliance

Through proactive measures and advanced technologies, our parking safety and compliance officers respond to reports of illegally parked vehicles, focusing on high-traffic areas during peak times such as school pick-up and drop-off times, rush hours and special events.

Report an illegally parked vehicle. Response times may vary. Reports can only be made over the phone.

  • Parking safety

Park responsibly, put safety over convenience and do your part to improve traffic flow.

  • Education over enforcement

Make informed decisions and avoid parking tickets or getting your vehicle towed.

  • Community outreach

We are here to support your community parking needs through our outreach programs.

  • Festivals and events

We support major events so you can connect with the people, places and activities you care about.

Report illegally parked vehicles

When you report unsafe parking, you protect public safety, provide access to emergency vehicles, and keep roadways clear for pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers. Your call makes a difference!

Simplifying enforcement

Our Parking Safety and Compliance Officers can give tickets for parking offenses within Calgary city limits, as described in:

Enforcement involves:

  • Responding to calls about illegally parked cars
  • Patrolling high congestion areas and during busy times like rush hour, schools, or special events
  • Automatic enforcement through photo enforcement vehicles with license plate recognition technology and ParkPlus system reports
  • Photo enforcement and digitization of parking sessions and permits allows for an efficient process.

The ParkPlus System features photo enforcement and digital management of parking sessions and permits — simplifying enforcement.

How photo enforcement works:

  1. Photo enforcement vehicles regularly patrol parking areas. They capture time and location-stamped photos of parked vehicles.
  2. The ParkPlus system compares these photos to payment records to validate payments, and licence plate registration for membership parking, permits and contracts. It marks “potential violations” where it can’t find a match.
  3. A Bylaw Officer reviews the “potential violation” in detail.
  4. If the violation is confirmed, a parking ticket is printed and mailed with the photo evidence to the last known registered owner of the vehicle.
