North Lot upgrades
Initial maintenance improvements have already begun but construction for the proposed parking lot upgrades is expected to begin Spring 2026. The proposed upgrades to the existing lot include paving the existing gravel lot with asphalt and upgrades to storm water management, accessibility, lighting, security, landscaping and clearly marked parking stalls. In addition, we are proposing a small parking fee for people using the parking lot for more than two hours and an optional overflow parking design to provide additional parking stalls to the existing parking lot.
Edworthy Park joins a long list of busy parks and open spaces where Calgary Parking operates, including the lots at Millennium Park, Prince’s Island, St Patrick’s Island, Poppy Plaza, Riverwalk and Riley Park.
Benefits of Calgary Parking's management

- This transfer of stewardship was a cross-departmental collaboration between Calgary Parking, Real Estate & Development Services and Parks & Open Spaces. These three groups will continue to work closely together to ensure a smooth transition and minimize disruptions to users and maintain the level of service.
- Improved Safety: Paving will improve the parking lot surface, reduce potholes, reduce dust and improve lighting to provide a safer environment for all users.
- Better Organization: The introduction of directional signage, dedicated parking stalls will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion and introduce an organized parking structure.
- Increased Maintenance: More frequent maintenance, including snow removal, will ensure the lot remains in good condition year-round.
- Enhanced Visitor Experience: With a well-maintained and organized parking lot, park visitors will have a more pleasant and stress-free experience. Wider stalls with some dedicated as electric vehicles will accommodate all users.
- Affordability: Any future parking fees will be set at a level that remains affordable, ensuring continued access while funding further improvements which will include two-hour free parking for park users.
